GREENVILLE, Mich. — After multiple days of investigating an explosion in an industrial building at Dicastal Incorporated, the Greenville Department of Public Safety Fire Investigation Unit with assistance from the ATF, determined the cause, according to authorities. Waterproof Weed Containers

While conducting the investigation, evidence shows an employee was using a hand grinder to work on a piece of machinery when sparks ignited aluminum dust in the vicinity, according to the investigation unit.

Due to the amount of metal and dust in the area, firefighters used an on-site dry chemical powder extinguisher to help diminish the fire, authorities said.

The Greenville Department of Public Safety responded to the call on March 17, around 9:45 p.m.

All of the employees were able to evacuate the building, according to public safety officers.

One male employee was taken to hospital and is expected to recover as his conditions improve daily, according to the Greenville Department of Public Safety.

Crews extinguished the fire within the plant and on the roof for multiple hours until the "all clear" was given at 1:45 a.m., public safety reports.
