Snøhetta is adding to its catalog with its new work for Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski resort. Located in the Tyrolean Alps, the Norwegian architectural firm designed a new viewing tower for the resort’s 10th anniversary.

To commemorate the special year, the resort replaced its ski lift and enlisted the help of Snøhetta to craft its viewing tower. The tower is called “Top of Alpnbachtal” and features a 13-meter-high timber build that nods to alpine design influences. What stands out about the space is its shingle-clad exterior, wooden interior and its special 360-degree panoramic viewing room. Finishing off the space is a rooftop terrace – offering another view of the snowy landscape. guyed tower

“Timber buildings have a great tradition in the Alpbachtal region. It was obvious for us to use these references and create a modern interpretation. Based on traditional construction methods, the structure could be realized as resource-conserving and sustainable as possible,” says Patrick Lüth, partner and managing director of Snøhetta Studio Innsbruck. “Just as importantly, we developed the design in dialog with the alpine landscape.”
